It is in Baptism that one is welcomed into a community of faith. Parents who wish to have their child baptized must attend two classes held the 1st and 2nd Tuesdays of every month at 7:30pm in the School Library. The classes extend hospitality to the parents and godparents, encourage them to articulate their faith, and present certain precepts and norms for a Christian family life. The classes also give the parents a view of the history and specifics of the Sacrament of Baptism. After attending these classes, parents are invited to coordinate the time and date of their childs baptism with one of the deacons.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available in the church from 4:30 to 5pm every Saturday or by appointment. Special Reconciliation Services are held during Advent and Lent.
First Reconciliation or Penance is celebrated in early February. Students in grade two and above may receive the Sacrament, if they are enrolled in our parish Religious Education Program or in the Parish School. In October, parents are invited to a Reconciliation meeting designed to help them prepare their children at home. Dates and times of these meetings are scheduled through the Religious Education Office.
First Eucharist is celebrated by students in grades two and above. Students must be enrolled in the parish Religious Education Program or the Parish School. Because parents play such an important role in the preparation and participation of their children, they are asked to attend a meeting in February to update their understanding of the Sacrament. During this meeting, details about the Eucharistic Celebration, the Communion Retreat, and Communion Practice will be discussed. Parents are given packets and books to better help them prepare their children for this most important Sacrament of our faith. Dates and times of preparation for the Sacrament of First Eucharist are scheduled each year through the Religious Education Office.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is open to all high school students (grades 9 through 12). Preparation begins in the Fall. The process includes participation in the parish's regular Religious Education Classes on Sunday mornings or Wednesday evenings. In addition to participating in weekly classes, students are required to attend A Life in the Spirit Seminar and two formation activities. They must also be involved in some form of Parish Ministry or service activity. A list of formation options will be presented at a parent meeting to be held in October. Periodic meetings will be held with parents and sponsors where their role and the importance of the Sacrament are discussed. The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated annually in April or May.
